The Brave New World of Media

Category: events, filmmaking

Really interesting event last night — The Brave New World of Media, which was sponsored by WebVisions. Held at the Hollywood Theatre (featuring incredibly heavy downpours of rain on the way there) in (where else) Portland’s Hollywood neighborhood over in Northeast. This is a really cool old theatre where Lisa and I recently viewed the entries to Portland’s 48 hour film festival.

But back to this event. It featured a variety of digital and traditional film people talking about where things are going in filmmaking. Here’s how they described it: Vince Porter, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Film and Television, and Jeff Geoffray, a gap financing expert at Blue Rider Pictures, discussed the brave new world of meta-media production and share his insights for businesses to evolve and grow in the fast-changing media environment. Then, a panel of experts from feature films and television to advertising and gaming explored the secrets of their success and shared their insights on the future of media production. The panelists included:

Jeff Geoffray, Blue Rider Pictures
Beth Harrington, Beth Harrington Productions
Robert Lewis, Fashionbuddha Studio
Bruce Wyman, Second Story
Dan White, Pipeworks Software
Dean McBeth, Wieden + Kennedy
Moderator: Brad Smith, Hot Pepper Studios

All in all, it was a really interesting evening. Plus, the beer was free, which always helps. And I guess the strongest message I took away from all of this film and digital talk was… if you can envision it, you can do it.
