New Screenplay Reading

Category: writing groups

Participated in a reading of a new screenplay — named “Soul Trade” — for Portland screenwriter Mark Lysgaard last night. It was a pretty zany story… which (in Mark’s own words) goes like this: After simultaneous near-death experiences, the souls of two polar-opposites swap the unlikeliest of bodies; a poor, altruistic Afsyrastan doctor and a self-serving US Congressman masterminding covert operations against Afsyrastanian rebels. A wicked political satire that twists the conventions of point of view and brings a surprise ending.

It was a fun reading (I got to be an evangelical preacher, among other roles) with fun people. And I’m looking forward to getting together with this group again.
